Description
Users should have the option of specifying an alternative nick when theirs is in use instead of just appending "_". The "_" can be appended if no alternate nick is specified.

That feature is already implemented. Just go the Preferences and set more than one nickname in the "Nickname(s)" field separated by spaces. If you go with the mouse cursor over the field and wait a second you will get a help tooltip about this.
