New (empty) filters invisible - not self explaining

Description
When you create a new filter you don't have much feedback. All you see is that a row is selected:
And if an empty filter isn't selected it is even invisible, because it has the same colour as the background. It is confusing!
Ideas to solve this:
a) open a dialog, like other application e.g. alacarte
b) fill the cells with placeholders (like placeholders in a html text-input-field[1]) - you know the grey text that disappears when you click on/in the object
